The town of Deva, originally settled by Romanian and Hungarian immigrants, hides an ancient
evil in its hills, an evil which has been waiting for native son Alex Nadasdy to come back home to attend the funeral of a childhood friend. Then Alex himself is brutally killed in a car accident and returns from the grave to discover his heritage; he is the descendant of Elizabeth Bathory, the Hungarian countess who, in the middle ages, killed over 650 young women, drank and bathed in
their blood. Elizabeth’s descendants are born carrying the curse of the strigoi, a breed of vampire. These unfortunates are human until they die and the curse manifests. Elizabeth herself walks the
earth, restlessly looking for more of her own kind. While she has formed a coven of strigoi
followers, it is Alex who interests her most; he is the most direct in her line, a crown prince for
whom she has plans. But Alex still holds onto his humanity, stubbornly refusing to kill and drink blood. The longer he holds out, the weaker he becomes, risking madness. Elizabeth will do
anything to make him submit, using his friends against him and holding his girlfriend Erika
hostage. Alex will do anything to save her… even compromise his own morals. Once he crosses
that line, will Alex slip into temptation and take his place at Elizabeth’s side?

As Bram Stoker was inspired by the historical character of Vlad Tepes and used Slavic myth as
his basis, so too does Strigoi use Elizabeth Bathory, an historical figure who believed the blood of
her victims would keep her young forever. Strigoi is a story about personal transformation, fate,
and redemption and recasts the vampire legend with gruesome authenticity.
