In the near future, although technology has given humanity the means to survive mass pollution, overcrowded cities, and conquer many diseases, the greatest strife is the war over religion and mankind’s struggle to maintain true faith. Gil Forrester is a burned-out bodyguard in the private
sector, hiring out to politicians and executives with no real focus on what he really wants for
himself in life. That all changes when Gil is hired by Gregor Hunt, a wealthy philanthropist who
wants Gil to protect a little boy named Jeremy whom Hunt adopted. For the right price, Gil takes
the job, but is given no reason to believe that Jeremy’s life is in danger… until Hunt’s entourage is attacked and the assailants attempt to kidnap Jeremy. Gil saves the child, but when he demands answers from Hunt, he is stunned when Hunt confides that Jeremy is a descendant of Jesus Christ. Further, Hunt claims to be a member of a secret organization that has protected this bloodline for centuries. Gil struggles with whether he believes this claim and concludes that whether or not it’s
true, he must focus purely on his job as protector. When Gil finds himself in contact with the other
side of the equation, another organization at war with Hunt, the tables turn. This ‘Brotherhood’
claims that Hunt stole Jeremy from them when he was a baby and has diabolical plans for the
child when he grows up. Gil is torn between the organizations and who to trust. He then conducts
his own investigation, discovering more than he bargained for as he’s fully plunged into the
epicenter of this centuries-old conflict.
Note: the original script for Descendant categorizes as a suspense thriller, with settings in the Washington DC metro area and various towns in Austria. The scifi version primarily alters these settings and the time period, but the general description of Gil’s story is the same in both versions.
