Feelin Like Samara

Filmmaking is a collaborative effort. While everyone would like to consider him or herself as an auteur, I find I am nothing without the people I collaborate with. These are the people whose talents far exceed mine to which I am thankful that I have gotten to work with. The vocation 'Director' does not put me in a position where I am telling them what to do, rather, I like to see it as a sponge for these talents. Ideas and creativity filter through me to which I tunnel them in together to create a consistent look for a particular project that I am working on.

Screenwriters are my best friends during development, DPs and Production Designers are my best friends in production, while Sound Designers, VFX artists and Motion Graphics people are my best friends in post production. I consistently find new inspiration with the people I work with. Perhaps this is why I choose my crew very carefully as I know that I am inspired by many things, especially people in life.

There is no right way or wrong way in filmmaking. On my set, there is a 'Pearry' way of doing things. I don't claim it to be the right, wrong or only way to do it, but instead I like to see it as a good possible way at a good possible time to make the best possible decision, that is 'My' way of doing things on set.

If you are here to contact me about a possible job offering, please bear in mind that I get tons of request from people wanting to work in my crew. For the most part, the people that I choose to work with are still working with me, so the possibility of say, finding a new DP, Production Designer .etc. is slim. I like working with people on a long term basis so I find it very hard to let go of my crew on my projects. It's not that I don't think you are good enough, but respect the fact that my loyalty to my crew is as strong as they are to me.

I love collaborating with screenwriters on new projects. But please bear in mind that I am inclined to work on certain kinds of projects. Strong, dark, visually stimulating ideas with great stories are my weakness. I don't enjoy working on comedies, or hip hop cultured films as I tend to know too little about it. Take a look around the website, it's obvious what I like :)

The best way to work with me, is to intern. No, I'm not looking for a free hand out for free labor. It's just that I find it extremely hard to justify paying for somebody new than somebody I have already worked with and enjoy it very much. Most of the people who are working with me start out as interns. Their ability to get along with the rest of my family crew will ultimately lead to my decision to hire them later on.
